*Advanced Spanish 1: This class is for students that have a very good handle on Spanish, including grammar, but still need improvement in conversation and fluency. The class is based on a Spanish reader and specific grammar topics as they arise.
Spanish 1 or Intro?
Spanish Intro is for absolute beginners that have never studied Spanish before, or who perhaps studied a little but have forgotten it. The goal of Spanish Intro is to establish a very solid foundation in the basics of the language.
Spanish 1 starts with a review of the basics, but quickly jumps into more complex sentences, a broader vocabulary, and a Spanish language reader. Students in level 1 should already be able to use the present tense and have a good understanding of how the language works.
Unless a complete beginner, all students must take a placement test. The test allows us to be sure that you are placed in a class that challenges you but does not overwhelm you. The test takes about 45 minutes to complete and consists of a written and oral component. There is a $20 fee to take a placement test, which is then discounted from the course should you decide to enroll. Given the limited number of courses available, there is no guarantee that a course will be offered for your corresponding level. If you would like to schedule a placement test, please get in touch!
CR Languages also offers private instruction and custom courses for small groups. Private and custom courses must take place during the day, between 9:00 and 5:00, Monday through Thursday. A private class may be a good fit for someone who cannot attend in the evening, has very specific goals, or who cannot commit to a 16-week group class. For those interested in taking lessons with more than one person, it would be considered a ‘custom group’ class. Please contact us to inquire about availability and current pricing.
Not in Boise? Private lessons can also be arranged via Skype using the same materials and curriculum.
Below are some basic descriptions of our methodology, the curriculum, and the different levels of the language. For more information about our methodology and learning a language, see the resource page for learning a language.
The foundation of every class at CR Languages is a ‘full immersion’ methodology, which means English is rarely used in class and students are challenged to begin speaking on day one. Students learn grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, pronunciation, reading, and writing. Every instructor at CR Languages has native fluency in the language and the culture, which makes the learning experience truly authentic. Classes at CR Languages are very challenging and very effective.
The Spanish curriculum at CR Languages has been completely developed by Co-Founder and instructor Julieta Cordovero-Rowles. While teaching Spanish to foreigners in Buenos Aires, Julieta was not happy with any of the existing materials available and decided to write her own. There are 6 books in total that contain explanations, exercises, short texts, and not a single word of English. In some courses, a Spanish reader or novel is also used. Though the curriculum incorporates readings and listenings from the entire Spanish-speaking world, the grammar covered in class is principally Latin American Spanish.
Spanish consists of 11 different levels. Each level is a 16-week course following the group class schedule.

Raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Julieta has always had a passion for history, politics, and languages. While earning a degree in Political Science from the University of Buenos Aires, she began to study languages in order to read texts in their original form. With Spanish as her mother language, she continues to refine her English and Portuguese, and studies French, Italian, German, Russian, and Mandarin. Following her passion, she quit her job in import/export and started a language institute in Buenos Aires, which she operated for four years before moving to Boise. Julieta is constantly refining the 6 course books she has written for the Spanish curriculum and is currently working on a Spanish vocabulary book. She enjoys Brazilian music, heated political discussions, and making students laugh at/with her in class.
Erika grew up in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. She has worked as a language instructor for the last 3 years in many places including Spain, Colombia, Russia and the United States. In her home country of Spain, she enjoys how people gather, talk and enjoy a 4-hour meal together. The relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle is one of the favorite things she enjoys about her island’s culture. With her students, she enjoys seeing the learning process and how they come to understand that learning Spanish is not impossible. In her free time, Erika likes to read, take interesting classes and spend time with her family. She also enjoys the many outdoor activities that Idaho has to offer.
Oana grew up in Bucharest, Romania. She has worked for Boise State University as a Spanish Adjunct Instructor and for the St. Luke’s Health System as a Qualified Spanish and Romanian Health Care Interpreter in the Language Services Department. Oana enjoys sharing her knowledge and love of Spanish with those who want to learn it. She loves the diversity and variety of the Spanish culture. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, traveling, cooking, learning and exploring new things and being with friends.
