Placement Tests

Unless a complete beginner, all students must take a placement test. The test allows us to be sure that you are placed in a class that challenges you but does not overwhelm you. The test takes about 45 minutes to complete and consists of a written and oral component. It can be taken either in our office in Boise or via email. There is a $20 fee to take a placement test, which is then discounted from the course should you decide to enroll. Given the limited number of courses available, there is no guarantee that a course will be offered for your corresponding level. If you would like to schedule a placement test, please get in touch!

Custom and Private English Classes

PrivateEnglishCR Languages also offers private instruction and custom courses for small groups. Private and custom courses must take place during the day, between 9:00 and 5:00, Monday through Thursday. A private class may be a good fit for someone who cannot attend group classes or has very specific goals. For those interested in taking lessons with more than one person, it would be considered a ‘custom group’ class. Please contact us to inquire about availability and current pricing.

Not in Boise? Private lessons can also be arranged via Skype using the same materials and curriculum.

Curriculum

Below are some basic descriptions about our methodology, class structure, and curriculum. For more information about our methodology and learning a language, see the resource page for learning a language.

EnglishCurriculumThe curriculum at CR Languages offers a blend of English used all over the world, which allows students to be comfortable speaking with anybody, whether that person is American, British, or is also speaking English as a foreign language.

The curriculum is up-to-date and relevant to student’s lives. Interesting topics encourage students to participate in class and challenge them to express their own ideas and experiences with current topics. This means students actually think about the materials in an organic way that challenges them to think in English. The course book also includes a CD with exercises, audios, and videos, which a student can use to continue their studies. The audios and videos are also optimized to be transferred to an iPod or mobile device.

Class Structure

The most important aspect of English classes at CR Languages is the class structure. Each class has an average size of 4-5 students, which means that everyone participates and has an opportunity to practice what they are using. It also allows the instructor to give personalized attention to each student to help them improve on their weaknesses. At CR Languages, you will always find yourself surrounded by students that have your same level, and who are as dedicated to learning as you are.
