Our Policies

The following policies apply to all of the classes that we offer at CR Languages. Since participation in our classes is voluntary, participation implies acceptance of these terms of service. Students also agree to these terms of service upon enrollment. For terms of use regarding our website, please see our legal statement.

General Policies

CR Languages accepts cash, checks, and all major credit/debit cards. We also accept Paypal, which offers 6-month financing.

Any student that has studied the target language before must take a placement test. There is a $50 fee to take a placement test which is discounted from classes if the student decides to enroll. The $50 fee is not credited for Russian and Chinese placement tests if the instructor must be present. The test results and the validity of the $50 credit, if applicable, are good for 6 months. After that time, the student will need to retake the test and pay the $50 fee again. Given varying schedules and availability, there is no guarantee that classes will be available for the student’s level. Placement tests must be prearranged. They are administered in our offices in downtown Boise, and under special circumstances, via email.

A course book and materials will be used in each class. Course books are generally available for purchase in our office. If they are not available in our office, we will provide the ISBN number to students so that they can purchase it elsewhere. They are no refunds for course materials once they have been delivered to the student.

Any student participating in a class authorizes CR Languages to take their photo and use it in our marketing materials.

Instructors are subject to change without notice.

While some students are excited to study with a new instructor, others may become upset by the news. Though we recognize that it may feel uncomfortable or challenging to be taught by someone new, often there is very little we can do to prevent the change. The fact of the matter is that instructors, like you, lead busy lives outside of their classes, and scheduling changes, second jobs, and other circumstances do sometimes lead them to no longer be available for an existing class.

Having a new instructor is a great opportunity and we hope that you will see it as such. Working with a different instructor exposes you to someone with an unfamiliar accent, teaching method, background, and perspective. Although this can be an adjustment, we believe it better prepares you for real-world use of the language, as it is very unlikely that everyone you encounter will sound and speak the same.

Despite the benefits of studying with more than one instructor, CR Languages will not give you a new instructor arbitrarily. We just want students to be aware of the possibility that they may not have the same instructor for the duration of their studies with us.

Current Covid 19 policies can be found on our Classes During Covid page.

Group Classes

In order to enroll in a group class, students must fill out a short form with their contact information, accept the terms of service (these policies), and make full payment for the course. Payment in full is required in order to reserve a spot in the class.

Students must attend at least 75% of the course. For standard group classes, that means students can miss a maximum of 4 of the 16 classes. If a student cannot maintain a 75% attendance rate, they must schedule private lessons in order to keep pace with the class or withdraw. If a student misses more than two classes in a row, they may also be required to schedule supplemental private lessons. Private lessons must take place during normal business hours and are subject to instructor availability and the normal policies associated with private/custom classes (see below).

If only one student can attend a class, the class is shortened to 1 hour and 20 minutes. If that sole student is more than 20 minutes late, that class will be automatically cancelled.

Missing classes:

There are no refunds or discounts available for missed classes. If a student misses a class, they may email info@crlanguages.com to receive the homework assignment for the next class.

A final exam will be administered on the last day of class. The exam is optional, but passing the exam is required in order to continue on to the next level. If a student cannot take the final exam on the scheduled day, they may arrange to take the exam on a different day. If a student wishes to take the final exam on a different day, it must be taken in our office during business hours, may be a different exam, and the student must score at least a 75% to move onto the next level.

In order for a student to pass a course and continue onto the next level they must maintain a 75% attendance rate or attend sufficient supplemental private lessons. The student must also pass the final exam with a 70% or a 75% if the exam is taken on a different day than usual. If a student fails an exam, they may retake it with the instructor’s approval. Exams must be taken either during the scheduled time (the last class of the course) or during regular administrative hours.

Due to the limited space available in group classes, the following refund schedule applies to people who enroll in a class and then must withdraw:

If a student cancels their enrollment more than twenty days before the course’s start date, they will receive a full reimbursement minus a $200.00 administration fee and the $50.00 placement exam fee (if applicable). If a student withdraws their enrollment less than 20 days before the course start date, there will receive a full-refund, minus a $300.00 administration fee and the $50.00 placement exam fee (if applicable). If the student withdraws their enrollment less than ten business days before the course’s start date, they will receive a 50% refund less the $50.00 placement exam fee (if applicable). No refund is available if a student withdraws their enrollment less than five business days before the course start date, the day the course starts, or after the course has started. ‘Postponing’ enrollment is considered a withdrawal from the class.

If CR Languages must cancel a course for any reason, a full or prorated refund will be provided within thirty days of cancellation.

If a student enrolls in a class without taking a placement test in order to take advantage of a promotion, they will have 20 business days to take the placement test. If they do not take the placement test within 20 business days, they will be disenrolled automatically and receive a refund in accordance with the refund schedule outlined above.

For continuing students that sign up for the following level but do not pass the final exam for their current level and can otherwise no longer continue or take classes, a full refund is available.

If CR Languages must cancel a course for any reason, a full or prorated refund will be provided within thirty days of cancellation.

Credit card transaction fees of 2.9% are included in the cost of our courses but are non-refundable. That transaction fee will be deducted from ALL refunds when payment is made with a credit card or PayPal.

Private/Custom Classes

In order to enroll in private or custom classes, students must fill out a short form with their contact information, accept the terms of service (these policies), make payment for the first month of classes and a prepayment for the last month of classes. Payment in full is required in order to confirm a schedule. Enrollment must be completed 10 days before the first scheduled class. Classes must be taken in consecutively.

Private and custom classes are billed on a 4-week (monthly) cycle. Upon enrollment, students pay for the first month of classes and prepay for the last month of classes. Payment for the following month of classes is due on the last class of the previous billing cycle. When a student wishes to discontinue classes, they should provide notice at the beginning of their last billing cycle so that their prepayment for the last month of classes can be used. If a student fails to provide enough notice before discontinuing classes, they will forfeit their prepayment. Delinquent accounts are subject to a late fee of $35 and their schedule may be made available to other students.

Students may cancel one class per billing cycle if they provide 24 hours’ notice and on a business day, otherwise, they are no refunds or discounts available for missed lessons. Credit for the canceled class will be deducted from the following invoice. For custom classes with more than one student, a cancellation is when none of the students attend a class. If a student must miss more than two consecutive weeks of classes, they can suspend their classes, but their schedule will be made available to other students. If a student is more than 20 minutes late to their lesson, it will be forfeited. If a student does not show for two consecutive lessons without giving notice, their schedule will be made available to other students and any credit on their account will be forfeited.
