CR Languages offers several different options for those wanting to learn Portuguese in Boise, including small group Portuguese classes, custom and private Portuguese classes. Below you will find more information about the different options available, the curriculum and materials used, and the instructor.
CR Languages specializes in exclusive group Portuguese classes for adults.
- Standard group classes meet one evening per week from 5:30-7:30 for 16 weeks.
- Exclusive class sizes of 4-5 students ensure that no one falls through the cracks, and allows the instructor to provide individual attention to each student.
- Students are assigned homework, are expected to study outside of class, and take a final exam at the end of the course.

There are currently no group Portuguese classes scheduled. You can join our contact list at the bottom of the page or contact us directly and we’ll let you know when new classes are offered!
Unless a complete beginner, all students must take a placement test. The test allows us to be sure that you are placed in a class that challenges you, but does not overwhelm you. The test takes about 45 minutes to complete and consists of a written and oral component. There is a $20 fee to take a placement test, which is then discounted from the classes if you decide to enroll. Given the limited number of courses available, there is no guarantee that a course will be available for your corresponding level. If you would like to schedule a placement test, please get in touch!
CR Languages also offers private instruction and custom courses for small groups. Private and custom courses must take place during the day, between 9:00 and 5:00, Monday through Thursday. A private class may be a good fit for someone who cannot attend in the evening, has very specific goals, or who cannot commit to a 16-week group class. For those interested in taking lessons with more than one person, it would be considered a ‘custom group’ class. Please contact us to inquire about availability and current pricing.
Not in Boise? Private lessons can also be arranged via Skype using the same materials and curriculum.
Below are some basic descriptions about our methodology and the curriculum. For more information about our methodology and learning a language, see the resource page for learning a language.
The foundation of every class at CR Languages is a ‘full-immersion’ methodology, which means English is rarely used in class and students are challenged to begin speaking on day one. Students learn grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, pronunciation, reading, and writing. Every instructor at CR Languages has native fluency in the language and the culture, which makes the learning experience truly authentic. Classes at CR Languages are very challenging and very effective.
The Portuguese curriculum at CR Languages blends grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and listening all together. Students will use a course book in the class which is imported from Brazil and does not contain any English. While the course book is from Brazil, the instructor is from Cape Verde, where European Portuguese is spoken. This dynamic blend trains students to be more flexible in their comprehension and usage of the language. Students will have a lot of practice in class, and will take daily quizzes to refresh and reinforce what they are learning, and identify areas that need more work. There is also a final exam at the end of each level.
Paula grew up in Assis, a city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, but has also lived in Australia, France, and Germany. For the last three years, she has worked as a translator – a job well suited for someone who considers themselves a language aficionado. Paula enjoys how languages can provide a window into the many ways in which different groups of people perceive the world, as well as the role it plays in both culture and identity. She loves teaching Portuguese to students and hopes that doing so will help others to see the beauty and nuances of Brazilian culture, her favorite aspects of which include Brazilian music and Brazilians’ ability to relax and enjoy their time off. In her time off, Paula likes to cook, travel, and spend time with friends.
