Group Chinese Classes

CR Languages specializes in exclusive group Chinese classes for adults.

  • Standard group classes meet one evening per week from 5:30-7:30 for 16 weeks.
  • Exclusive class sizes of 4-5 students ensure that no one falls through the cracks, and allows the instructor to provide individual attention to each student.
  • Students are assigned homework, are expected to study outside of class, and take a final exam at the end of the course.

Please contact us for information on pricing, availability, and to confirm schedules.

*This class is available for anybody that wants to practice speaking in Chinese. No grammar will be covered, no book will be necessary. The only requirement is that you can, at least, speak in present tense. If you are not sure about your level, please contact us to schedule a placement test. There is a $20 fee to take the placement test which is discounted upon enrollment if you decide to sign up. Please contact us for more information.

Placement Tests

Unless a complete beginner, all students must take a placement test. The test allows us to be sure that you are placed in a class that challenges you, but does not overwhelm you. The test takes about 45 minutes to complete and consists of a written and oral component. There is a $20 fee to take a placement test, which is then discounted from the classes if you decide to enroll. Given the limited number of courses available, there is no guarantee that a course will be available for your corresponding level. If you would like to schedule a placement test, please get in touch!

Custom and Private Chinese Classes

ShanshanCR Languages also offers private instruction and custom courses for small groups. Private and custom courses must take place during the day, between 9:00 and 5:00, Monday through Thursday. A private class may be a good fit for someone who cannot attend in the evening, has very specific goals, or who cannot commit to a 16-week group class. For those interested in taking lessons with more than one person, it would be considered a ‘custom group’ class. Please contact us to inquire about availability and current pricing.

Not in Boise? Private lessons can also be arranged via Skype using the same materials and curriculum.

Curriculum and Methodology

Below are some basic descriptions about our methodology and the curriculum. For more information about our methodology and learning a language, see the resource page for learning a language.

The foundation of every class at CR Languages is a ‘full-immersion’ methodology, which means English is rarely used in class and students are challenged to begin speaking on day one. Students learn grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, pronunciation, reading, and writing. Every instructor at CR Languages has native fluency in the language and the culture, which makes the learning experience truly authentic. Classes at CR Languages are very challenging and very effective.

The Mandarin Chinese curriculum at CR Languages blends grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and listening all together. Students will use a course book in the class which is imported from China. While the main focus will be on Pinyin, which is more practical for beginners, common traditional characters will also be taught.  Students will have a lot of practice in class, and will take daily quizzes to refresh and reinforce what they are learning, and identify areas that need more work. There is also a final exam at the end of each level.
