It\u2019s uncomplicated and incredibly satisfying, making it a revered dish in France.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditionally, pot au feu was a dish for the poor. It utilizes less expensive cuts of meat that are slow-cooked until tender. Now, the dish is made everywhere from small villages in France to trendy cafes in Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s no definitive recipe for Pot au Feu other than the general guideline of meat, potatoes, and vegetables. Traditionally, the meat portion entails bone marrow because it provides a lot of flavor to the stew, but other than that, you sort of have free range.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bonus: The recipe is also available in French, perfect for practicing your language skills while you cook!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pot au Feu (Yield:&nbsp;2)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1.25 lb beef shank with the bone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2 a large onion, diced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 cloves garlic, minced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1.5 tbsp olive oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3\/4 tsp salt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/4 tsp ground pepper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 carrots, cut-up<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 leaves bay<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 small potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tbsp tomato paste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>teaspoons splash of lemon juice, a couple<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heat olive oil in a medium pot over medium heat. Saut\u00e9 onion and garlic until translucent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the beef (and bone) to the pot, along with enough water to cover the beef &#8211; about 3 cups of water. Add the salt and pepper. Cover the pot with a lid and bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low (erring on the side of low).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After 30 minutes, add the carrots and bay leaves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After another hour, check the beef with a fork to check if it\u2019s tender yet. If not, continue cooking and checking the beef in 10 minute increments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the beef is tender, add the potatoes, tomato paste, and splash of lemon juice. Cook the potatoes for another 20 minutes, until the potatoes are fork-tender.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the bay leaves and serve the stew with some crusty French bread.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Follow along in French for practice!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pot au feu (Pour 2 personnes)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingr\u00e9dients :<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>570 g de jarret de b\u0153uf avec os<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2 gros oignon, coup\u00e9 en d\u00e9s<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 gousses d&#8217;ail, hach\u00e9es<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1,5 cuill\u00e8re \u00e0 soupe d&#8217;huile d&#8217;olive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3\/4 de cuill\u00e8re \u00e0 caf\u00e9 de sel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/4 de cuill\u00e8re \u00e0 caf\u00e9 de poivre moulu<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 carottes, coup\u00e9es<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 feuilles de laurier<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 petites pommes de terre, pel\u00e9es et coup\u00e9es en morceaux<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 cuill\u00e8re \u00e0 soupe de concentr\u00e9 de tomates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quelques cuill\u00e8res \u00e0 caf\u00e9 de jus de citron<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions :<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Faites chauffer l&#8217;huile d&#8217;olive dans une casserole moyenne \u00e0 feu moyen. Faites revenir l&#8217;oignon et l&#8217;ail jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 ce qu&#8217;ils deviennent translucides.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ajoutez le b\u0153uf (avec l&#8217;os) dans la casserole, ainsi que suffisamment d&#8217;eau pour le couvrir, soit environ 3 tasses (750 ml) d&#8217;eau. Ajoutez le sel et le poivre. Couvrez la casserole et portez l&#8217;eau \u00e0 \u00e9bullition, puis r\u00e9duisez le feu \u00e0 moyen-doux (ou plus doux si n\u00e9cessaire).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apr\u00e8s 30 minutes, ajoutez les carottes et les feuilles de laurier.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apr\u00e8s une autre heure, v\u00e9rifiez la tendret\u00e9 du b\u0153uf \u00e0 l&#8217;aide d&#8217;une fourchette. Si le b\u0153uf n&#8217;est pas encore tendre, continuez la cuisson en le v\u00e9rifiant toutes les 10 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Une fois le b\u0153uf tendre, ajoutez les pommes de terre, le concentr\u00e9 de tomates et le jus de citron.
